People launches Telstra's ADSL2+

in brief Business-focused internet service provider People Telecom today said it had launched ADSL2+ broadband services based on Telstra's network, making it the first firm in Australia to do so.

Telstra had previously declined to open up access to its network on a wholesale basis, however the telco appears to have changed its attitude in recent months.

Telstra has Australia's largest ADSL2+ broadband network, reaching some 900 telephone exchanges around the nation. People Telecom is already an extensive reseller of Telstra services and inked a $200 million deal earlier this year with the bigger telco.

People Telecom is offering ADSL2+ plans ranging from $84.95 per month with 10GB of on-peak and 10GB of off-peak data, to a $119.95 per month plan including 60GB of data.

    A Grim FutureAnonymous -- 29/08/08

Ladies and Gentlemen: this is a sneak peek at the kind of prices that Telstra will charge on the NBN, if they get their way! I don't blame People Telecom for charging such prices (Telstra forced them to) but is this what Australia deserves?????

Very grim indeedLord Watchdog -- 29/08/08 (in reply to #320110890)

10GB for $85? Are they Fairdinkum? I am paying almost half that for 15GB, not including $27 for line rental which is passed on by Tel$tra.

This is the very reason why Telstra must NOT be given a chance to own two broadband networks. Their pricing regime is clearly holding this nation to ransom to our embarassment and detriment.

    $85 - what a bloody joke.

    And...Lord Watchdog -- 29/08/08 (in reply to #320110895)

I'll add that I currently have two broadband connections - one ADSL1 with People and one ADSL2+ with Spin. I was delighted to hear that People was finally going to offer ADSL2+ and have been pondering for a couple of weeks on upgrading that connection. Fat bloody chance of staying with them when I finally bother with the upgrade.

ADSL 2+ again for PTAnonymous -- 01/09/08 (in reply to #320110897)

I was a long time customer of People Telecom. I joined back when the company was Swiftel and was on their initial attempt at ADSL 2+.

The way PT handled it was nothing short of a joke and I left as a result of it. PT can't be too serious if these are the prices they're offering.

    ever heard of TPG?Anonymous -- 01/09/08

how can ANY company offer packages such as these when with TPG you can get 150GB for $70???? did the entire telecommunications industry fail in basic marketing??

    Quality??Anonymous -- 01/09/08 (in reply to #320111011)

yeh but I heard they were bad for dropouts??

Have you even tried TPG?RL -- 04/09/08 (in reply to #320111015)

That's what they say. But have you even tried TPG? You can't judge an ISP that you've never connected to. I'm not on TPG, so I cannot tell whether their network drops out or not.
