Young Aussies learn finance skills online

The Commonwealth Bank will launch a Web site on Monday designed to help young Australians develop financial skills.

The site, -Dollars and Sense", was developed in conjunction with Open Training and Education Network - Distance Education (OTEN-DE) NSW and is designed to meld into the Mathematics and Business/Commerce curricula for years 10-12 across Australia.

"Through this new program we want to help give young Australians the confidence and knowledge that comes with controlling their money and working towards achieving their financial goals," said David Murray, managing director of the Commonwealth Bank, in a statement.

The site includes interactive features such as the Dream Generator, where users are taken through the steps of budgeting for a major expense such as a new car or a holiday, and the Skilltester, a series of multiple choice quizzes about earning and spending money.

In addition, there are fortnightly forums planned with guests ranging from champion netball player Liz Ellis to the Australian Taxation Commissioner, Michael Carmody.
