Telstra's data solutions and sales managing director, Paul Geason, said in a statement "the Westpac agreement shows IP telephony is recognised as bringing financial and productivity benefits through a single, converged communications network".
Telstra announced the Westpac deal yesterday in tandem with the launch of its IP telephony solution, offered in partnership with Dimension Data, Broadsoft and Cisco, who supply design, integration and technology support.
"IP telephony is a significant growth opportunity for Telstra as more large businesses and governments are looking to use the service not as a way to make cheap voice calls but as a tool to reduce the cost associated with managing separate communications networks," Geason said.
Geason added that the key benefit for business was the ability to migrate to the service at their own pace while protecting their investment in existing telephony equipment.
"The key feature differentiating Telstra's IP telephony solution is the ability to combine existing handsets and PBX equipment with the latest generation of IP technology," he said. "This helps business reduce the costs of maintaining separate communications networks".
