Vodafone customers left stranded without credit

Vodafone pre-paid customers have been unable to top-up their phone credit due to a problem with Vodafone's credit card processing system.

A ZDNet Australia reader who called Vodafone at 10am this morning was unable to update her payment details using the automated phone system. After waiting 15 minutes for Vodafone's assistance, an operator also failed in the attempt to manually update the customer's payment details, leaving the customer with a phone that could only tell the time.

"Usually Vodafone is a really good service, but this time around I'm stuck with a phone I can't use, messages I can't get access to and no way to find out when it's all going to be resolved. As a Vodafone customer I can't use my phone, I can't get messages from my voice bank and I can't top up my account," the source told ZDNet Australia.

This afternoon Vodafone had prepared a message for its customers who were attempting to recharge their phone credit.

"Hey there, thanks for calling Vodafone," said the pre-recorded voice. "We're experiencing issues at the moment and can't get to your call. Please try calling back later."

A subsequent message reassured customers Vodafone was taking action. "Vodafone customer service centres are currently experiencing customer service issues which may prevent us from resolving your request. Our engineers are working towards a solution."

A spokesperson for Vodafone said its IT department is investigating the problem and that it was only an issue for one to two hours, however, by press time, the ZDNet Australia reader's phone was still without credit.

This is not a new issue. Over the past year or so, this has happened too many times to count. Both automatic and manual top ups fail, with the system often 'forgetting' the details of registered credit cards.
In my opinion, it;s the worst thing about Vodafone

    Can't top upAnonymous -- 16/08/07

Not only can I not top up by calling vodafone, the website seems to not function either!!! Great!! What's the point of having a phone if I can't use it!!!

On a number of other occassions when I wanted to get through to a customer service agent, after selecting the appropriate menu item, I would hear only the dial tone.... Extremely frustrating. When I mentioned it to a customer service agent they told me that couldn't possibly happen.....arghhhh

My daughter and myself subscribed to vodafone internet on our mobiles that was being advertised as $5 to start, and $5 each month thereafter, simple as.......! Well, not. Nowhere did/does it read that it costs you extra to browse vodafone selected sites and when you subscribe, they take your money straight away. When we called them,to my disgust, they said that it was just bad luck!!! I wonder what the telecommunications ombudsman would think about that!! When it comes to dealing with kids, this network is the worst company ever as they will rip our kids with no hesitation!! I would be very interested in hearing from anyone else who has had these dealings with vodafone. At least to my knowledge, what you see is what you get from "most" of the other carriers? Not shifty theft by deception!!! Get your act together vodafone, the cost of living is hard enough without you stealing from us and exploiting our innocent kids!!
