Vodafone's 3G network coverage in Perth has now been restored after an 11-hour outage caused by "routine network maintenance".

Vodafone Hutchison Australia (VHA) confirmed that its 3G coverage in Perth and surrounding suburbs experienced an outage between midnight and 11am today. Customers had earlier today complained that 3G and GSM/GPRS reception was "intermittent".

"Vodafone engineers worked as quickly as possible to repair the 3G network fault, which was caused by routine network maintenance," a VHA spokesperson told ZDNet.com.au.

Customers with 2G-enabled devices were still able to access Vodafone's 2G network and use voice and text services, said the spokesperson.

The newly merged mobile telco earlier this week announced its 3G network now reached 94 per cent of the population, and was extended in WA to the remote northern location Kununurra.

Vodafone said it regretted any inconvenience experienced by customers in Perth and that it will address compensation claims on a case-by-case basis.
