"Through this strategic partnership, iVox will develop an alternative last-mile access solution. This wireless option would be utilised where there is no copper connection to the customers' premises," iVox said in an e-mailed statement today.
In the statement, PBA's managing director Jonathan Withers described the relationship as "a natural partnership".
"Australian consumers have begun to understand the benefits of VoIP telephony, and increasingly seek to include VoIP with their broadband service," he said.
A number of large Internet service providers such as Primus, iiNet and Internode already offer bundled VoIP services to the mass market, although the nation's two largest Optus and Telstra are yet to follow suit. In addition independent services sold by providers such as Engin, Laurel Stream Communications and Telecorp are available.
