VoIP on horizon for employment firm

Employment services company Adecco is paving the way to adopt Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) by upgrading its communications systems under a multi-million dollar deal with business telecomms provider PowerTel.

In a statement issued to the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX), PowerTel managing director Paul Broad said Adecco wanted the upgrade to deliver a platform that would service the company's needs "for the next three to five years".

As well as "advancing [Adecco's] business," he said, the upgrade would "ready them for the introduction of VoIP".

According to PowerTel, the upgrade includes replacement of a legacy voice platform and introduction of PBX to 90 sites Australia-wide, implementation of enhanced business services such as IP VPN, Internet via Ethernet and teleconferencing and better, more transparent billing systems.

Adecco Australia employs over 300 people and 11,000 temporary associates across a network of more than 70 offices, the company said on its Web site.

Further comment was being sought from PowerTel and Adecco.
