    Technology challenge Anonymous -- 23/03/07

Interesting thing is that the Howard government now has had more that 10 years to catch up with the rest of the world and even so, mining boom and all, Australia still has the second lowest average broadband speed of all OECD countries.

If you happen to live in rural Australia (like I do), you are either on a dial-up connection, or if you are very lucky you may get to pay Telstra more than $90/month for a 128 kbs ISDN connection!!

"What about in 10 years' time where there's a totally different set of technology?", Vaile said.

If ISDN is the best this government could do in the last 10 years, it certainly looks like Labor's proposal would be rural Australia's best chance to use any technology at all in 10 year's time.
