Unwired today announced the retirement of chairman Peter Shore, just a few days after the wireless provider signed a major investment deal with Intel Capital.

Shore has been one of the driving forces behind Unwired since it purchased 3.5GHz spectrum licences at a government auction in 2000. As acting chief executive officer, he spearheaded Unwired's AU$105 million listing on the stock market in 2003.

In a statement today, Shore said Intel Capital's AU$37 million investment presented Unwired "with an opportunity to settle its leadership team for the next few years".

Steve Cosser, one of the founders of Unwired, will replace Shore on the board.
