Systems integrator Unisys has secured a deal that will see it exchange IT services for publicity in the upcoming rugby world cup.

The company will provide "tournament scoring and information services" in exchange for the high exposure associated with involvement in the series.

"We're not getting cash as such, we're getting tournament benefits," said Craig Meagher, the Asia Pacific sports marketing and sponsorship director for Unisys.

Describing the value of the services as in the "multi million dollar" range, Maher says the company has more or less snagged itself an exclusive deal. Telstra is also involved, and will provide the tournament's bandwidth and connectivity.

"Telstra will be taking the technology to the wall and then Unisys will be plugging in from there," Meagher said.

Unisys will collect match scores and statistics and upload them to a central tournament database, which will then be accessed by the media.
