The damage affected the China-US and SEAMEWE3 cables about 30km off the coast of Shantou on the Chinese mainland, Telstra's Martin Ratia told ZDNet Australia.
"We don't know the extent of the damage so we really can't talk about the extent of the impact," Ratia said. -Hopefully it won't be more than a bit of congestion or small delays caused by congestion."
-It's a suspected ship dragging it's anchor, but that's not confirmed," he added.
Ratia said voice traffic has been restored and Internet traffic to the US was being restored by Southern Cross Cable.
The SEAMEWE3 cable was being brought back into action by SingTel in China, Ratia said.

Internet cables laying deep down on the ocean floor have been damaged more times than I care to remember now , and the inconvenience is not just limited to casual and residential internet user's......it affects business and essential services too.
Since we rely so heavily on the internet these days and our reliance upon it will grow greater in year's to come , an even greater priority should be given to making sure these ship's are either made more aware of the cables routes , or made to act more cautiously with their anchor's.
