Telstra restructures to boost services for 2003

Telstra has announced a rearrangement of the company, effective January 1 2003, which will, among other changes, see its broadband, online and media businesses united under one banner.

The new group, Broadband, Online and Media Services, will comprise Telstra's broadband and online services businesses, its directories and advertising business Sensis, and Telstra Media, which includes pay-television arm Foxtel.

Telstra's chief executive officer, Dr Ziggy Switkowski, described the restructure as "timely", saying it was needed to "continue the improvements we have made in our customer service".

"The Australian communications industry is completing its correction phase and preparing to enter a new phase of growth fuelled by exciting new wireless, broadband, entertainment and information products," said Switkowski.

Another new group, Telstra Consumer and Marketing, is being created to handle the management of Telstra's brands, advertising and sponsorships, serving consumer customers fixed, wireless and data, and implementing Telstra product bundling initiatives. This group will be formed out of the existing Telstra Mobile Group (except for corporate sales), Customer Care and various product management groups.

Telstra Country Wide, the group formed to improve services in regional Australia, has had its reach extended to include several new territories, including the Sunshine Coast, Newcastle, Wollongong, Canberra and Geelong.
