Telstra restores 8000 storm-affected services

Telstra has doubled the number of technicians working in storm-hit NSW in order to restore 8000 services following power blackouts at 28 telephone exchanges.

Twenty eight exchanges were brought offline on Sunday evening following a widespread power failure in NSW in the midst of storms that left much of the region declared a disaster area.

The chaos forced the telco giant to double its number of repair staff to 300 in Sydney's north west - the area most affected by storm damage.

-Technicians have been working around the clock, basically protecting sites by bringing in emergency generators and trying to maintain power at the exchanges," a Telstra spokesperson told ZDNet Australia. "They've been working hand-in-hand with the emergency services," he added.

All 28 telephone exchanges are now back online and the 8000 storm affected services have been gradually restored.
