Customers who have reported inoperable fixed line services in the wake of the bushfires will receive a free call diversion to another service of their choice, be that fixed or mobile. Furthermore,Telstra mobile customers suffering from the fixed line fallout will be charged fixed line rates for local and STD calls made using one designated Telstra mobile per household.
-A lot of people are in the situation where they're having to use mobiles to make necessary calls and we're just trying to ensure that they're no worse off," Telstra spokesperson Steven Laidlaw told ZDNet Australia. Laidlaw also said that -scores of people" have so far taken advantage of the free-call diversion service.
Telstra said it is working with the relevant emergency services to identify its customers who have lost their homes in the continuing infernos to offer -appropriate relief in light of their individual circumstances".
The telco heavyweight is also continuing to restore fixed and mobile services in fire scorched areas following the approval from Regional Fire Services to re-enter those areas affected by the blazes, however, -still some areas are no-go zones," Laidlaw said.
