Talks were progressing until the Union tried the old sneaky blackmail the employer trick.
A fair go for all but no more stand-over tactics Mr Lawrence please.
No doubt the uions are paid by TTTT or Optus to derail Telstra's good intentions toward sits workers. Telstra has a great track record in looking out for it's employees.
Like sacking 20,000 of them?
And despite foreign competition still manages to employ 35,000 Australians.
The same unions support Optus employees as well as Telstra.
Telstra doesn't give a stuff about its employees, I've just been retrenched by them after more than two decades of loyal service in the support area. If you don't directly make money for them, ie, work in sales or marketing, then you're nothing to them.
20 years = a nice big pay packet and if you really as good as you think finding another high paying job in a full employment market should be easy.
harsh, lets pull your nice cushy rug from under you and see how you cope.
Any chance of sharing your Super and excellent severance pay? Oh and by the way did you ask for voluntary redundancy?
The first 5 years = 3 weeks per year
After that = 2 weeks per year
Plus 1 extra week per year if you are over 50
Plus 5 weeks reassignment pay which you can work off to help find another job or take it and run.
Plus accrued leave
Plus sick pay depending on your pay deal.
20 years = between 50 and 70 weeks pay plus leave plus possible sick pay.
If you can't use your experience to find a similar or better paying job in that time then you probably deserve to have been booted.
I've been there for 15 plus years and am sure to be there in another 10 because I deliver what is needed of me.
John you are the type of person needed in Australia and I think Telstra would greatly appreciate you.

Just goes to show that as much as I do not like labor at least they are not allowing unions to dominate and destroy the workplace like they did in the old days. Fight the good fight Telstra & others.
