Telstra and its majority-owned New Zealand telecom provider, TelstraClear, have teamed with Asian IP backbone and services operator REACH and Infonet to extend TPIPs' reach to Europe, Asia and North America.
As their name suggests, VPNs allow business to approximate the operation of private networks across common Internet infrastructure. VPNs sit on the network protocol that underpins the Internet.
The VPN service is intended to allow US and European companies to tighten business integration with their subsidiaries at low cost in the Asia Pacific region where, Telstra believes, demand will be strongest.
"Just as TPIPs has been an outstanding performer for us in Australia, we believe the demand for this new global service offering will be very strong, especially for companies headquartered in the Asia-Pacific region. US and European companies will also be able to use the service to connect offices across the Asia-Pacific region in a customised enterprise IP network solution," said Telstra executive director of data network services, Mr Paul Geason.
The VPN will provide businesses with means to run Voice over IP and email within a network curtained from the public Internet traffic.

I think mobile phones are great.
The worst thing about it is that you have to pay.
