I'm not always Telstra's biggest fan (or any other ISP/telco for that matter), but I support them on this one.
Sure the sceptics will highlight that Telstra might have some other reasons for keeping this information close to their chest, namely, keeping their competitors in the dark, but Telstra have a valid point.
I'm sure Telstra's networks have no single point of failure, but with all that information out there, a couple of strategically placed attacks could criple comms in Australia.
Does anyone know if there is a precedent for this? Is there another country out there where the bulk of telco infrastructure is privately owned, and that company was required to release details of the network to the government/competitors./regulators etc?
I'm curious to know how the same concerns were addressed elsewhere.

This request was made by Conroy of the three major carriers - not just Telstra - so lets see if the the other 2 are prepared to provide details of their physical infrastructure?
It would be great to know where all the exchanges are in Australia, where all the cable interconnect sites are, where the major switch facilities are, where the major backbone cables run - where the interconnect poiunts are between the major carriers - perfect.
Better still - lets print a big map ad include it in the major daily newspapaers.
