Tanner's role as minister is dreadful Anonymous -- 21/09/09

Doesn't this idiot understand the difference between a media content company and a cable access company?
Foxtel does not own the HFC cable network. Telstra owns half and Optus owns the other half. Foxtel could never be in competition with a phone company no matter who owns it, no more than the Ford Motor company could. Foxtel competes with the FTA TV stations.

Tanner is a Jerk and as a minister is dreadful Anonymous -- 21/09/09 (in reply to #320322859)

His hide should be tanned for his idiotic input on all of this.

Blackmail by an Australian Government. Sydney Lawrence -- 21/09/09 (in reply to #320322932)

I did admire Lindsay Tanner for his straight shooting remarks but after the socialist attitude he has adopted I must think again.

His threat to Telstra is blackmail and I hope Telstra can get all their shareholders together and give them the full story.

And then at the next election Telstra shareholders can give the Tanner Government a big serve.

Socialism Sydney? Rex Alfie Lee -- 24/09/09 (in reply to #320323122)

Is that what this is about? Socialism? I think the point is monopolies. Some parts of socialism are, I think you would agree, an improvement on the the split society that is destroying American Health system, something Johnnie K-k-k-howard wanted in OZ. Thank the voters he's finally gone. Sorry, for the tangent. The layering of OZ society, you being true-blue (your words, slightly modifed by moi), is inherently enforced by your protectionist opinion. Perhaps you are a unionist after all Syd, even though I'm sure I've read a few anti-unionist viewpoints from you in the past. Protection needs to be fair Syd, not just for one but for all & for those Telstra shareholders, yourself included, the majority of society has a right to reasonable service for reasonable charge something your favourite company has never provided. Now your fave is being screwed the way it should have been in the beginning.

Telstra should never have had control of the infrastructure. They should only ever have been a phone company & the Gov't should run the infrastructure. Thank Johnnie for that stroke of genius but thank Stephen for a better result.

Hang around Alfie. Sydney Lawrence -- 24/09/09 (in reply to #320331476)

    Early days yet Rex Alfie.
