Samsung leaves Australia off the list

Consumer hardware heavyweight Samsung may be entering the enterprise and carrier networking equipment market internationally, but the vendor has no plans to sell its new products in Australia.

The Korean vendor this week started shipping a series of routers designed for enterprise use, dubbed the Ubigate iBG series.

In a statement issued this week, Samsung said some of the router series was immediately available in Korea and China, and would be "rolled out throughout the world by the end of 2006".

But not in Australia.

"This was a release from Samsung Global and at this stage there are no plans for the Australian market," a spokesperson for Samsung's Australian operations told ZDNet Australia via e-mail.

The response came in answer to a question about the vendor's local enterprise and carrier-class networking strategy.

Samsung isn't the only vendor to keep Australia down the list of potential targets.

Search giant Google yesterday started selling its enterprise search appliances in Australia and New Zealand -- at least four years after early versions of the products reached some international markets such as the United States.
