SMS hits a New Year high

SMS use continues to soar, with Telstra estimating more than 9.5 million SMS messages were sent over its mobile network on New Year's eve and New Year's day.

According to a Telstra spokesperson, the peak time over the New Year period was between midnight and 1am. There were nearly four million SMS messages sent this New Year's Eve, compared to three million last year.

On New Year's Day this year 5.5 million SMS messages were sent across Telstra's network, compared to 2.6 million last year.

This follows a record nine million SMS messages sent on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
