Ripples return to BigPond

Telstra BigPond Home has been out of action since early afternoon, with authentication problems and inaccessibility to the Internet drying up the service for many users.

Telstra confirmed that the problem, which affected customers nationally, kicked in shortly after 1pm and as of 4pm there was no known root cause or estimated time of repair given by the telco giant.

"Some customers will be affected...by no data-flow or authentication problems," Telstra spokesperson Stuart Gray told ZDNet Australia.

At the end of last month, Telstra BigPond customers with usernames beginning P and F were hit by five consecutive days of e-mail delays due to a corrupted mail store.

BigPond customers can access Telstra service status information at www.telstra.com/ServiceStatus/.

Does Telstra also host asx.com.au? From the US, tracert gets as far as *.Sydney.telstra.net, then times out.
