Qld cops get mobile computing upgrade

Queensland's police and law enforcement vehicles are to be fitted with units which will allow access to information from databases remotely.

The new terminals are designed to allow staff to access information such as registration and licence information.

-The fully-functional PCs are mounted in the boot of the vehicle and are supported by mobile data and GSM/SMS communications capabilities," a statement about the move said.

Queensland Transport has developed a mobile integrated network data access system to allow users to access multiple databases using the units.

Solutions provider Logica won the contract to supply the new units. They will replace Queensland Transport's existing systems which have been in use since 1998.
