OzEmail announces broadband pricing

Australia's number two ISP OzEmail has launched its broadband offering, OzEdsl, together with a colourful new marketing push featuring Olympic Taekwando Gold Medallist Lauren Burns.

OzEmail CEO Justin Milne confirmed the offering would be principally targeted at prelisting OzEmail residential customers, however he refused to be drawn on how large a group it might target.

Under the plan new broadband customers are expected to cover the cost of the Alcatel Speed touch USB modem, and can elect either to install it themselves or pay for installation.

In a similar vein to the trial OzEmail conducted prices will be as follows.

Per month, OzEdsl 256 will cost AU$59.95 and include 500Mb downloads. The OzEdsl 512 service comes with either 1Gb included downloads (AU$79.95) or 4Gb included downloads (AU$99.95). The high-end offering, OzEdsl 1500, also comes in two forms, 3Gb included downloads for AU$159 or 10Gb included downloads for AU$399. All plans charge additional usage at AU$0.15/Mb.

What ever happened to the economy of scale model?
After the Optus new pricing, and Telstras troublesome cable provision pricing outrage seem almost on par with fuel pricing? Is there a collusion? and what am I to advise clients now?

So OzEmail's going to storm the market and make huge amounts of money by charging more than Telstra? Nice one! Who's the brilliant marketing guru who came up with that plan?

I agree with MV... With iprimus leading the way with lower ADSL prices and greater number of plans, it will be a miracle for OzEmail to attract customers.

I tell you what Australian Broadband is really going downhill so fast. The prices are through the roof instead of getting cheaper because more people have joined up. Plus they've put a download limit on us all too now. Sheeesh, it use to be so much better years ago when there was no download limit and the price was cheap too. Talk about ISP's getting ever so bloody greedy for cash! It really sucks! Americans have unlimited everything like optus use to have and for a low price too. This is really getting ridiculous. can't anything be done about this to get broadband to where it use to be before?

Why is it that Australia is so ...David Johanssen -- 11/03/03

Why is it that Australia is so incredibly far behind the rest of the western world in broadband connection? Limiting customers to 500mb/month or whatever is hardly providing a 24/7 service. It just makes me wonder how many people have got their greedy little paws in this pie.
