Optus outage may cause payouts

    ...but it had a hardware problem on Monday evening and was waiting for a replacement when the cable was severed.

    Bit unlucky really.

    We had no problems with connectivity yesterday as we reverted back to using RFC 1149 (http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc1149.html)

    it would be interesting to see how many situations there have been where the main link is disrupted and the backup link kicked in just fine.

    IT fails occasionally. For a backup link to fail as well/at the same time is a long shot but still possible.

    For all those Telstra knockers who complain about their high pricing, you need look no further than this event to see why their pricing is higher (no I do not work for Telstra but do work in telecommunications)

    Personally I would rather pay less and cop it on the chin when it goes out occasionally. If you want always on then be prepared to pay for it
