Consider that VoIP will soon make the copper-wire infrastructure redundant!
Understand that the coming of WiMax & other wireless protocols renders the basic copper-line infrastructure as worthless in a very short period of time anyway. What Gov't would sell a product (one that already belongs to us being it was built whilst Tesltra were a Gov't org), to their constituents knowing it's going to be worthless in a very short period anyway?
What type of a-holes are the Gov't let alone Telstra?

Telstra will haggle, argue, stall, cry poor or use any other ploy to avoid a decision before judgement day!
The case has already been put off until May 2nd. Fat chance either the court or the ACCC will stop the endless nonsense we all have to put up with, not to mention the hugs costs involved which will inevitably be passed on to their customers and the rest of the users of our comms systems, but will the government or the responsible Minister put a stop to it?
I doubt it!
That might spoil the sale of the remaing shares.
"Justice Goldberg described the case as complex and expressed concern about it possibly running beyond the expiry of Telstra's existing price regime on June 30.
"If the (price) undertaking has expired before we hand down our decision then there's nothing to approve," he said."
