Ditch the Keyboard Anonymous -- 19/07/07

Wow, talk about an outdated entry into the market to compete with iPhone.

Watch out RIM, Apple is going to take your lunch money.

Ditch that keyboard, enlarge the screen and add a touch screen keyboard.

I was skeptical but ditching my newly acquired curve for the iPhone has me only looking forward. What a great feeling it is to FINALLY have a phone that does not frustrate over time.

iphone is for teeny boppers and aging ex-hipsters who will buy anything that they think will make them look cool.

Anyone who is serious about getting work done uses a blackberry with a qwerty.

Have another cup of koolaid anon

Make a real size virtual key projection and then and only then will the market be worth entering.

I ditched my BB for the iPhone.

You could not be more mistaken.

I owned a computer store building and fixing PC's and got so sick of windows and all the BS attached to it, I closed shop, bought an apple, finished my degree in medicine and haven't looked back until last year when circusmstances forced my hand. Doesn't anyone besides apple have an operating system that doesn't suck and ruin everything it touches? I'm saving my pennies and this time next year i'm buying an Iphone, a mac mini and I will have a party with my pc and a sledge hammer.... ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. I will burn my pc and smash it and then I will throw the windows packaging and discsoff of a ferry into puget sound and laugh madly while it drowns. I will be free at last. Next thing to work on is running paul allen and his crappy buildings out of seattle.

    why ATT? Anonymous -- 19/07/07

Is it just a corporate move on RIM's part to join hands exclusively w/ ATT? I know I may be ignorant as to how all the corporate partnerships work, but why can't RIM join hands w/ some of hte other phone service providers? Is it about stealing marketshare from Apple? Are they only concerned about their pocketbooks? I refuse to discontinue my service w/ the provider that has been good to me for over 5 years just to join ATT, but I'd like to see them get hooked up w/ one of these groovy phones.

Are you inuts? Rodney -- 19/07/07

the new touch screen will be the standard..and should be ..

iPhone is worthless piece of crap The Truth Shall Conquer All -- 20/07/07

iPhone does not deserve all the hype. Let's be honest all of the features, and I mean all of it features were all available on most phones before iPhone came out. Besides touch screen phone was already set to come out, and it was called LG Prada, well Apple like the idea and made exact the same phone. Well it got so much hype, that now whenever an actually good phone comes out, it gets the media's attention as the "iPhone's competitor" When in reality iPhone is a crappy phone.

Iphone is the future: think about it Anonymous -- 20/07/07 (in reply to #320083120)

I have never commented on a posting before, but this topic has me so riled up i have to say something. I am so sick of hearing about people saying "oh, other phones have the same features of iphone, all that it has different is the touch screen and the interface" ARE YOU ALL MAD? That is the only important thing!!! How you interact with the device. You know what? Back when phones had rotary diallers, they made calls too. No-one said when mobiles came out "oh, my phone at home does that, it ain't so special". You think that other phone companies aren't making phones that are the exact same as the phones made by their competitors? I am so sick of hearing about 2 megapixel, flip phones, with bluetooth, audio playback, recording video, vibration, email......blah blah blah. I work for a major Telco here in Australia, and not one company has made anything decent in the last 4 years. Nokia and Samsung come close with High res cameras....but thats it. And they are as ugly as your brother's warts. The iphone is a design icon, as is almost every product that comes out of apple. The interface people, its all about the interface!! Why do you think that people spend their money on them? Because they are a joy to use and do what you need them to, for the vast majority of people, you want a cool thing to use, and a cool way of using it...only a small percentage need alll the bells and whistles that people complain about apple's products not having. Wake up to yourselves and enjoy the fact that a company is making products to be enjoyed......

    iPhone is not the end-all be-all Anonymous -- 20/07/07

The iPhone is definitley sleek and cool, no doubts about that, but in performance it is just not up to par. It is running on one of the slowest networks out there (EDGE) as opposed to a 3G network that gets download speeds up to 2.4 MBps. Then, there is the little thing it did to Duke's WiFi, where it floods their routers with false MAC addresses. Then, don't try to use its browser dialing feature, or you might end up with a chunk of 900 numbers on your bill. Then there is the lack of a removable battery, crappy camera, no online music download program, no third party programming ability, and the list goes on. There are a lot better functioning phones out there, such as the Blackberry 8800 and 8820, Helio Ocean (which appeals to the same crowd as the iPhone), etc. The interface is definitley cool and groundbreaking, but don't try arguing that iPhone's functionality is better. In a world of Windows, I would rather have a BB with more features and functions than a touchscreen. Oh, and Apple isn't that hot when it actually produces a mainstream program for a larger audience; take a look at the thirty-some security problems Safari had on Windows. Its easy to be popular when you are a niche technology fully focused on interface.

Macs have 30 some problems -- on windows? Anonymous -- 21/07/07 (in reply to #320083168)

    Let me read that again..
    On windows?
If anyone can make something NOT buggy on a windows they need to turn off the emulations.

You can't expect Apple to get it 100% perfect on the first try. But, when it comes to Apple I'd say second generation with cheaper prices, better Battery, 3g, Video capturing, and 3rd party apps *will* be the "end-all be-all"

2nd generation Apple Products Anonymous -- 21/07/07 (in reply to #320083169)

Personally, I think Apple products are overrated. They are innovative yes, but that doesn't mean that another company can't make something with the same features but works better. Take the iPod for example. Innovative yes, cool yes, but the best mp3 player out there? No. I was really disappointed with both my iPods, ecspecially when I lost 3200 songs when it decided to retire. Lots of my friends have had the same problem, their iPod just broke and wouldn't start up. I now have a Zune and I have never been happier. It has a cooler interface, more features, and all around I think it just works better.

As for the iPhone, I think its just a touchscreen. I know thats the main feature and I think its cool, but when I am upgrading my phone in a couple months its not what I will be looking at. Blackberry, Palm, and Samsung all have phones out that I would rather have. The iPhone is all about looks.

And it had that many security problems because Mac doesn't have to develop for the mainstream public or businesses. How many corporations use Macs? Complain all you want about the "evil empire" but my Windows computer runs great, has never crashed, and is compatible with absolutely everything.

    iPhone Anonymous -- 04/12/08

Well having viewed the comments, I can see that the large number of asinine comments have come from N. American users. Keep the comments constructive instead of showcasing your ignorance. For (1) in Asia, our networks are moving beyond 3G and are already talking of the next generation to come. So for us an iPhone is utterly useless. We cannot use it transborder. (2) Yes people do use office as they do not only listen to music and watch stupid Youtube videos (imagine the consumption of your battery energy where do you leave time to answer a simple phone call). So rather than booting up a computer, Mac, Windows, Linux or whatever one can simply turn on their phone receive and edit the documents on the go. Something that iPhone and its myriad of simpleton users do not seem to comprehend. (3) To entice Asia to move away from devices such as Blackberry, Nokia, Samsung all Apple has to do is take one of those devices sold in Asia and mirror its functionality, how simple is that in today's age. So all your sedentary comments aside, its ground functionality is missing when compared to Nokia E61i, or Blackberry's pearl. Now for those beloved users of the large screen display, these manufacturers have realized that all they lack is a larger screen (due to iPhone and multilanguage functionality) and have taken steps to change with their new phones. So as a result many users of iPhones, here, have switched back to proper sets. And there are those still holding out to see whether or not the next generation of iPhone will be the most up to date when compared to other mobile PDAs and phones. So keep using your iPhone in the US to surf your facebook, watch your children's videos but that as the song says won't impress us much darling.
