New AU laws to target online porn, e-crime

Senator Richard Alston, the Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts, has flagged new laws to crack down on Internet harassment and usage of the medium to advocate violence.

Under the new laws, "the use of a telecommunications service to carry offensive Internet content" will become a criminal offence. While it is currently illegal to use a telecommunications service in an "offensive" way, the new laws will cover Internet content and penalties for breaches will be doubled.

Offenders will face a penalty of up to two years in jail.

"People using the Internet to advocate or facilitate violent protests, for example by spreading information on methods of violently disrupting international meetings and attacking police officers protecting such gatherings, including those using the Internet to harass or menace others are amongst those who could be prosecuted under the new offences," a statement from the Minister's office read.

ISP's are in the clear -- they are exempt from the tough new law -- assuming that they are unaware of the content being transmitted.

The new legislation is a part of a swathe of government moves to attack everything from child pornography to the "rebirthing" of stolen mobile phones. It will also make the hosting of prohibited content a criminal offence.

"The new offence will complement this scheme by introducing criminal penalties for placing material on the Internet that would be regarded by reasonable persons as being, in all the circumstances, offensive," the statement said. "Prohibited content is material that has been or would be Refused Classification or classified 'X'. Content hosted in Australia that is or would be classified 'R' is also prohibited if the offending material is not subject to adult verification restrictions."

Senator Alston aka The Ministe ...Anonymous -- 21/08/03

Senator Alston aka The Minister for Banning Everything, has cast a wide draconian net with his new legislation. His censorship crusade has been going on forever. He outlawed Australians from internet gambling, but basically everyone has ignored THAT legislation. The guy reminds me of the preacher in the Porky's movies. He just wants to ban freedom of speech, freedom of artistic expression and good clean fun.

Dear Sir, I would like to draw your attention to the following letters which I have sent to some editors and would like your responce concerning these issues. The problem is not only on the internet as the following proves.

    ADVERTISING GANG RAPE.

A recent TV movie on SBS 7-6-04 at 9.30 pm showed 2 sessions of gang rape and a group of youth beating up a drunken old man and other group violence. Yes "A Clockwork Orange" contains this material and the Video rental version maybe more explicit. So gang rape and gang violence against old people is encouraged by this station. Yet it boasts about high approval ratings. Who even allows this? Who would even want to watch this unless they are learning how to commit these evil actions. No wonder it happens to people in the streets. This is not just about nudity and some nonsense this is cruel violence and should be unacceptabe but there it is promoted as fun on a national accepted TV broadcasting station. Who gave them a licence? Whoever did is guilty of educating Australians how to destroy young and old. The way to promote this yourself is to do nothing. Does anyone care? Thanks, Nev Richards Box 508, Tolga Q4882.or nev7777auau@yahoo.com.au (not reply to sender) Nev Richards

    ADULT/CHILD PORN.

We hear about this being available on the net but do we expect full frontal naked male, female and children on T.V. on an 8.30 pm programme. Well that is what everyone watching " Lost Worlds: A Species Odyssey" on SBS on 9-5-04 saw. There was a standard warning at the beginning but it would have been a programme watched by children as well as it was about evolution. There was also sexual approaches by a male to a female who refused for a time. Then there was the mostly hidden sex scene as obvious as would be expected on some Adult movies with some suggestion of force. Promoters of this material would be charged any where else so why was it allowed on early time T.V.

This is only part of the trouble. It contained the usual modern evolution theory presented as fact when there is great doubt and disagreement in scientific research. Evidence for this is found in scientific journals like "New Scientist" where theories are presented and refuted in their original state not as presented on the media. So it was loaded with the typical evolution statements not based on fact. Some of them being:

    1. They were eating meat to give protein to develop(suggesting evolve) a greater brain. Wrong, there is no way eating meat can increase the DNA information to give a larger brain to offspring.

    2. Neanderthal’s in Southern Europe 200,000 years ago and last Neanderthal 25,000 years ago. This is very disputed information even among evolutionists.

    3. A bear leaps on the hunters in a cave and the chief is mortally wounded. The son sees there are more wounds on his father than a bear could make. He realises his father was attacked by his rival but is not strong enough to make a challenge. Is this science or fiction? Who saw it? Is knowledge no longer based on the rules: see, hear, taste, touch and smell.

There is much more but the above is enough. If Christians would get the simple facts and deluge the station advertisers, the station itself, and whoever else with letters until someone takes notice. Our younger generation is being brainwashed with these errors until they believe there is no God. No wonder there are drugs and wild living and "schoolies weeks". Some will say Christians wouldn’t be watching this anyway, well your kids are watching and that is why they call your belief in God old fashioned. Will anyone do anything?

Thanks for your time, God bless,

    Nev Richards.
