NSW govt short-lists telco suppliers

NSW government officials have culled their list of potential suppliers for the state's AU$260 million telecommunications spend over the next few years.

The government this week met telcos it has invited to issue requests for tender for its fixed voice, mobile, satellite and paging products and services.

The telcos were selected from the government's initial call for expressions of interest, which was expected to be swamped with offers.

The short-listed telcos given access to the tender documents are: AAPT, Commander Australia, Globalstar Australia, Hutchison 3G Australia, Hutchison Telecommunications, Macquarie Telecom, Message Stick Telecommunications, NEC Business Solutions, Nexon Asia Pacific, Optus Networks, Powertel, SP Telemedia, Telstra, Verizon Australia, and Vodafone Australia.

The government is expected to buy its telecommunications services through a series of panel contracts.
