NSW Fair Trading looms over Nokia again

The New South Wales Department of Fair Trading has re-opened its investigation of Nokia following fresh allegations that threaten to re-ignite the furore over the extent of display faults in Nokia handsets.

The Department of Fair Trading spokesperson Christian Fanker said investigators had started making enquiries in response to recent media reports concerning Nokia's handsets.

The allegations made in the reports contest the company's claim that display faults in handsets reported by consumers last year are limited to a batch of 8210 handsets manufactured between October 2001 and January 2002.

"We basically have heard comments in the media that people have had problems with other mobile phones and our investigators are starting to make some enquiries," said Fanker.

ZDnet Australia has recently received dozens of complaints regarding the liquid crystal displays displays in Nokia handsets. The majority of the consumer allegations are levelled at the Nokia 8850 but a significant number allege that the display defect is present other models such as the 5110.

The department could direct Nokia to extend its undertaking to compensate consumers who purchased faulty 8210 handsets to owners of other models if they are found to carry the same fault.

"If it were the same problem we would problem we would pursue the same path as we did for the Nokia 8210," said Fanker.

    What is going on with Nokia? I purchased a Nokia 7250, within 3 weeks it was locking up, calls were not coming through and the screen was locking. I called Nokia who advised to take it to customer care was "fixed" 3 times, when the phone started to malfunction after it was "fixed" the 3rd time i called and asked for a new phone only to be told that if the phone was less than 1 month it would have been replaced, the phone by this time was 5 1/2 weeks old but had been in the service centre for 3 of those weeks.Finally i got my replacements phone. I am now back on the phone to Nokia as after they replaced the phone, guess what ? the replacement phone was faulty. If you didn't know when Nokia replaces a phone they give you a phone that some unfortunate person has returned due to fault Nokia have supposedly "fixed" this phone then give it to some other unsatisfied customer who has had problems with their original phone... STOP PLAYING GAMES NOKIA people pay good money for your malfunctioning phones - forget about customer service nokia doesnt have any !

    My wife and I have had the Nokia 5110 since it was first available and as yet we have had absolutely no problems with them at all. That would be about Three Years now from memory.

    Further to this the most common talk I hear about mobile phones is that people who change from Nokia always end up going back to them because of the uncomplicated menu system and for the reliability.

    I do not and have not ever worked for Nokia or an assosiate company and I don't know anyone that does. I was just simply shocked to come accross this artical whilst looking for something else and thought it might just be a bit unfair.
