The New South Wales Department of Commerce is pushing ahead with plans to upgrade its wide area network covering 75 sites in the state, going to market this week for core routing equipment.
The department's general manager, Information Management and Technology, Geoff Tye, highlighted the upgrade as an imminent project when he spoke with ZDNet Australia in late August.
"As a key part of this project there will be a technology refresh of the network routing devices," the department said in tender documents released yesterday.
The department is seeking a range of Cisco equipment, with some of it needing to take into account existing Cisco and Avaya deployments of Internet Protocol-based (IP) telephony.
Tye said in August that Commerce had two smallish call centre IP telephony installations as a result of agency mergers in its past, and would inevitably rollout the technology in a wider sense. However there were no immediate plans in that area.
The department expects to award the router contract in early November.
