More woes for some BigPond customers

A routine ADSL upgrade by Telstra went wrong this week, causing BigPond retail and wholesale customers to lose their connection on two occasions.

Telstra spokesperson Kerrina Lawrence told ZDNet Australia   that a routine upgrade made on Monday night to increase capacity encountered "issues" which meant some customers experienced little or no data throughput. Lawrence said the problem was rectified by lunch time Tuesday, but recurred on Wednesday morning, and rectified again at 12.25 pm Wednesday.

Some users at community broadband site Whirlpool reported being unable to access the Internet for over 24 hours. The issue affected both BigPond retail and BigPond Wholesale customers.

"As a result of the [upgrade] software and hardware issues impacted the path via the switch data network," said Lawrence. She said if the outage contributed to BigPond Retail customers experiencing more than one percent downtime in the month they would automatically receive a discount on a future bill.

It wasn't only ADSL! My cable ...Anonymous -- 13/11/03

    It wasn't only ADSL!

My cable connection was out for at least 24 hours during this time. I suspect many others were too, as the helpdesk lines were unreachable. I have seen no acknowledgement from Telstra that there even was a problem, let alone an explanation for why cable was also affected. Unless I missed something, their service status page didn't say anything about cable either.

Stick to telephones and mobile phones... the rest of Telstra services sucks!!

    It's good that they are doing ...H G -- 15/11/03

It's good that they are doing this in that more than 1% outage, they are compensating customers.
However, my system crashed on Wednesday morning as a result of trying to shutdown Outlook. When I started up, everything in my profile was gone including my Outlook PST file (my last backup is @ 3 months), my cricket letters, as wels as some Digital images (luckilly my backup was more recent).
