More hiccups for BigPond ADSL users

Telstra's BigPond ADSL service had problems again this weekend, with users experiencing data flow difficulties and trouble browsing international Web sites.

A statement on Telstra's service status page said customers in Western Australia and Queensland were experiencing dataflow problems.

Broadband user group Whirlpool readers reported outages in South Australia also, with ADSL connection -coming and going" over the entire weekend.

According to Whirlpool, Telstra's news server was also down.

Telstra said there were two separate issues yesterday, the first which lasted for an hour and a half from 12.35pm yesterday, was put down to a software glitch which affected customers in Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia. Telstra said it was resolved by restarting the software with support from the vendor.

Telstra claims this incident wasn't linked to issues ADSL customers have suffered in the past and for which they have received a two-month discounted service.

"This is the first time in six months we've had an interconnecting issue between the backbone and the BigPond ADSL network," Telstra spokesperson Kerrina Lawrence told ZDNet Australia.

The second incident, a transmission link synchronisation issue, affected customers in the same areas and left them offline for about 20 minutes, Lawrence said.

Telstra is gearing up for a week of planned outages on both its BigPond ADSL and cable services, beginning early tomorrow morning. The planned outages page claims the services will be back up and running by 7am each day.

    Telstra user's , not just a fe ...Dean -- 17/09/01

Telstra user's , not just a few of them.......all of them , should be on the phones and seriously taking a united stand....making the company aware of the fact there is no way anyone can be held to a contract when their service is so plainly bad.

Be prepared to walk , if you think going back to dial-up is such a bad idea , imagine being able to actually connect to an ISP and surfing the net ....compared with low speeds and no net surfing at all.
