    1.6 million voters!! Anonymous -- 26/05/09

Krudd and Conjob Conroy will get their payback at election time when 1.6 million mums & dads get a chance to have their say. The real question is will Thodey have the guts to speak his mind like Sol all will he sell out Shareholders (and Taxpayers) and allow Krudd to break up Telstra appeasing his SingTel mates

Hmm Anonymous -- 26/05/09 (in reply to #320138351)

Nope I voted for Rudd and would again if conroy kills his filter plan. At the moment though conroy is really dragging him down in most IT peoples minds.
I don't think what was said was racist, maybe a little derogatory, but I think that was the intent. I think splitting up Telstra is a good idea, they do really have the monopoly and it is stiffling competition. If that monopoly was making money for the government and lowering my Tax like Telecom used to I wouldn't have as big a problem with it.

Not harsh enough... Anonymous -- 26/05/09

So people have apologised to Sol, have they? Hope he apologised right back for the despicable state he left Telstra in...

    Sol upset....Sol who???? Anonymous -- 27/05/09

So poor Sol is upset - that's usually what happens when a bully gets something back.. The funny thing is Kevin Rudd didn't say anything racist or derogatory. I can remember my dad saying adios to me and lots of people when I was a kid...and he still says it today. It isn't a racist or derogatory term. As for Nick Minchin sucking up to Sol by making any comment about it - haven't you got something better to do Nick??

    Racist? Puuuuuulese James -- 27/05/09

If anyone is racist, then it's the media. Sol and his senior managers have always been referred to as "The Three Amigo's". I assume Rudd was making a reference to that.

Racism is in the intention. A word without a context isn't racist.

This is such an idiotic story.

You're not wrong cw -- 27/05/09 (in reply to #320138487)

This is ridiculous. Using this logic, anyone who says a word from another language is being racist.

Talk about any excuse to have a winge. Maybe if you didn't bail early someone would have said "goodbye" instead.

Precious Anonymous -- 27/05/09 (in reply to #320138487)

Yes I think Sol seems a tad precious. I don't think there was malice in this.

idiotic story Anonymous -- 31/05/09 (in reply to #320138487)

I think you're right on K Rudd comment n spot on for your racism definition but I disagree that the story is idiotic.

Reporters' job is to report world, local, events as it is also what they think are newsworthy, whether it could incite people's curiosity, anger, discontent or any other emotions.

Don't get me wrong, some reporters can be biased and pressured by certain organisation or government to follow certain agendas or rules, but in this case, I think it is perfectly descriptive and unbiased.

You don't have to like the news, but the fact that you think the news is idiot is up to your personal interpretation.

Racism pure and simple Anonymous -- 04/06/09 (in reply to #320138487)

Would we call the associates of our Italian business leaders their 'Pisans' or chavers in the case of Jewish business leaders?

No - because we know that highlighting it can be for no reason to provoke a discriminatory attitude.

I suspect in this case of Sol the media latched on to the Amigos-theme as more of a comic nod to the film 'The Three Amigos' and then it stuck.

But why draw attention to his ethnic heritage so consistently? It's develop otherness in the minds of those observing and interpreting what's going on. It goes under the cloak of being harmless Australian larrikinism but that's crap - It's racist in its effect.

    A pathetic figure Anonymous -- 27/05/09

As a Frenchman I can attest there isn't any justification for Mr Trujillo's assertions about Australia.

Mr Trujillo had a great job and salary in Australia. He should try to apply as CEO at "Orange" (our Telstra)... He would not stand a chance of getting it.

Opportunistic much Christopher Sparks -- 27/05/09

Isn't this a bit convenient? I don't recall anybody from the 'other side of the House' objecting at the time of Rudd's remark. This is just more of the Liberals 'jump on anything anti-Labor to get airtime' policy in action.

My suggestion is to give Sol as much publicity as he gave value to Telstra shareholders, none.

Exactly, Minchin has to say this as shadow communications minister, he couldn't possibly be seen making a none issue out of it which it is.

    So long,farewell,auf wiedersehen, goodbye Madog -- 27/05/09

Sorry, Mr Trujillo if I offend you using any of the above terms. If you have English or German descendants in your family tree I am truly sorry. So is Julie Andrews.
You see Australians don't launch an enquiry into a persons racial heritage when they either say g'day or bid you goodbye. We have a light-hearted shot at each others heritage(mostly light hearted anyway) and noone takes offence. If Rudd said 'Adios ****" then that would be offensive and you would have the right to be upset. Amigo and adios are not intended as offensive as they conjure up images of sun-drenched foreign lands and good times.
    Get a Life.

Sol for PM sydney Lawrence -- 27/05/09 (in reply to #320138575)

Sol's only problem was that he stood up to those standover merchants in Government and they didn't like it.

Sol did OK at Telstra with Next G etc much better than the King of Spin and Con (Rudd) is doing for Australia.

enough already Anonymous -- 29/05/09 (in reply to #320138689)

It seems that Sol/Phil/"Sydney Lawrence's" only problem is that he/they never understood that they weren't the government.

The only standover merchants involved were those who seemed to complete have contempt for the Australian government, and when they found that didn't work they pissed off and started playing the race card to cover their actions.

Government of, by and for the people. Sydney Lawrence -- 30/05/09 (in reply to #320139549)

While understanding the role of Government let us not become so subservient and sycophantic to Government that citizens, through fear, lose all ability to question and challenge our Government leaders.

    let's play a game, syd Anonymous -- 30/05/09 (in reply to #320139730)

i agree with you sydney. if the government does wrong we should be able to see it and tell them. not suck up to them like subservient sycophants.

now for you personally sydney, re-read ythe above sentence but replace the words the government with telstra.

and again, still waiting Anonymous -- 30/05/09 (in reply to #320139752)

i asked before twice, and you dodged, so i'll ask again.

as everyone who doesn't agree with you is accused of being an opponent of telstra, which i am not, why don't you fess up and tell us how many shares it takes for you to make these comedic telstra comments 10 times per day?

so how many shares do you have syd, 10 000, 20 000, 100 000, more?
