Macquarie extends ADSL2+ to 250 exchanges

in brief Macquarie Telecom has extended its total ADSL2+ network to over 250 exchanges.

Of the exchanges, 100 are in Western Australia and Queensland — regions which Macquarie Telecom says have been neglected by other telcos. The expansion has increased the number of exchanges by 214.

Macquarie operates exclusively in the businesses and government markets, who will be able to access maximum theoretical speeds of 24Mbps downlink and 1Mbps uplink.

Once the network has been upgraded to ADSL2+, customers have the capability to upgrade to higher speed services. Some customers will be automatically migrated to a higher speed service without additional cost, for example from 6Mbps downlink and 640Kbps uplink to 8Mbps downlink and 768Kbps uplink.

BUT - how relevant is this? Bill Caelli -- 27/05/08

    This all sounds great!
The media reports and business says "great" ..BUT..BUT.. everyone forgets that this has NOTHING to do with those businesses connected to an exchange through a RIM or multiplexor unit (being a small distance from the exchange) or on Pair Gain circuits.

We need MacQuarie and the press/media to really tell us just what happens to all those, like our small business, connected via an "intermediate" node tot he exchange...otherwise politicians and their advisors start to think that - well - things are really happening with broadband.

For RIM/pair gain victims of Frank Blount (yes- he was Telstra in the 1990s) and Telstra just how long do we have to wait? Satellite at $150 a month, with limiting "hop" delays and so on, is no solution.

Who cares about "holographic Telepresence" demos when we are forced by Telstra to connect at aorund 40Kbits/sec - max!!!
