  1. Don't forget AAP -- 15/05/08

If this passes through every company in Australia that has invested in communications infrastructure must release details of their services. This will have two affects, the first being that all FTTN bidders will have details of competing networks and secondly companies that have not really invested will be identified making share prices drop and turning them into takover targets.

    1. Shame Liberals Shame. Sydney Lawrence -- 15/05/08

Australians now see the hypocrisy of the Federal Opposition and the G9.

The Opposition was exposed a short time ago for its disgraceful gift of 1 billion dollars of taxpayer money to their friends in Singapore to spite and damage a great Australian company, Telstra.

Now shamefully we see the Lib/Nats pulling out all stops to try to ensure G9 obtain the NBN tender. It is with great pleasure and hope that the Australian people see our Nation in the safe and sure hands of the Rudd Government and give thanks that they are pulling the levers and driving the bulldozer.

Shame Sydney Lawrence Shame for so comprehensively misreading the intelligence of the Australian Public.

They're absolutely tired of the hoary old xenophobic line about Optus and,

How many really believe that Telstra is 'a great Australian company'?

Certainly not their routinely 'gouged' customers putting up with appallingly awful backward technology and monopoly arrogance.

    3. Attack with no recourse Anonymous -- 18/05/08

Hide your name (as I will) and make statements about the Australian public, I am an Australian, a voter, Telstra as well as a Singtel shareholder.

I chose to use Telstra services for many reasons, the reality about pricing is blown way out of proportion, when you weigh up many factors Telstra actually provides a lot of value for money for what I pay.

From a shareholder perspective the dividends are fully franked and are much higher then the un-franked Singtel shares.

People may disagree about the word great but at least they are truly Australian.

From a technology perspective, I routinely have friends comment on the 'advanced' services I have in relation to mobile data, home cable speeds, always logged on to messenger (from my mobile when away from my pc).

Sure I may be able to do all of these things and more by using 5 different companies but that is not what I want and it doesn't suit my lifestyle. Until any of the other companies can offer all of the services I need then I will stick to the one company that delivers.

    4. Telstra services Grump -- 19/05/08

Pity though that they can't even service their antiquated exchanges & cabling..3 weeks now since I had my phones working.
      G.

    5. Because they knew it was you Terry -- 19/05/08

Grump, you have made the same my phone hasn't worked for weeks claim several times in the past few years. My guess is that you either don't pay your bills, use a wholesale reseller who keeps passing the buck onto Telstra, are a flat out liar or they know it is you and know you simply deserve it.

    6. Because they knew it was you Grump -- 19/05/08

Just who's the liar here Terry?
I have Never Before This made Any claim Whatsoever regarding my phone connection failing for weeks as you have falsely stated.
My bills are always paid on time, but yes I do use an alternate provider who due to my location, unfortunately is also at the mercy of Telstra's antiquated infrastructure & lack of response to service requests. (no staff left after shedding most of their employees in order to enhance profits?)
Your'e obiously a Telstra stooge paid to attack anyone that has the audacity to complain after 3 weeks minus my phone service.
So anyone critical of Smellstra deserves their neglect & indifference?
Guess it's just a coincidence that my service failed within hours of my rejection of Smellstra's latest offers to re-join the fold...
      G.

    7. As a wholesale customer Anonymous -- 19/05/08

Your relationship is with your wholesale provider, if it is Telstra's fault then they should have the issue raised with Telstra. You do not have a relationship with the company and your grievance should be with whoever sends you your bill. You have every right to request details of your fault and your vendor has every right to request fault logs from Telstra. All else fails you can go to the TIO, the last I heard ZDNet was a news site and a platform for people to air their opinions. Winging and whining here will not fix your phone.

    8. Telstra Disservice Anonymous -- 19/05/08

It's a pity also that I can get dialup in regional NZ at twice the speed for only two thirds of the price.

In Canada, Telus gives us line rental, free local calls and and 1000 free minutes long distance (incl. Australia) - all for only $C10 more than Telstra's basic line rental - and what's more - they're polite.

What happened to Telstra CD Directory listing? It was always six months late as compared a private firm's product - which Telstra shut down

Now - apart from buying paper phone directories from who knows where for every separate district in the country (they're no longer supplied to Post Offices) - you can't even look up the number you want without paying a fee and having to work through someone who shows no initiative in being able to find the number you want.

      Some service? Great Australian company??

      Heaven help us!
