I thought it was only dictatorial governments such as china who did things like this. We're a democracy aren't we? If I want to look up information on suicide, for research, curiosity, or because i'm dying a slow and extremely painful death from cancer, then it's my right to do it! Protect your rights, or watch them slowly eroded by a government who cares more about control than human rights.
I couldn't agree more with Mike and Jason's comments. The government should keep their noses out of things that have nothing to do with them, and instead, concentrate on running the country -- for a change.
This type of debate is a very hot one - and the government know it. This is simply a convenient "diversion" away from day to day running of politics.
I'm glad i didn't vote them in, or any other party for that matter. I find the majority of politicians odious, and am sick and tired of party politicking, federal vs state, and party quibbling about insignificant matters that continue to dominate tax payers money.
There is a saying: where there is a will, there is a way.
Good on you, Dr. Nitschke.
Dr Nitschke is aiding people. The gov't needs to butt out. It's called the right to your own life. The gov't is violating free speech and constitutional liberties. The gov't acts out of fear. My life belongs to me and if there is a compassionate person who has his eyes wide open in assisting those who want to end their pain, then so be it.
I do not know what right the government has to tell us what information we can access on the net that is not porn or pedophelic related. Information on how to have a peaceful death when WE deem it time, should be our right not somthing we have to search to find from people who are doing their best to help ill people. Allow euthanasia then we can all choose if and when we wish to take that choice. It should be a right not a fight.

Its no wonder people want to suicide with this type of stupid 'lets ban stuff we don't like' legislation put before parliament.
Its just like that idiotic ban on Internet Gambling, all that led to was the australian gaming sites moving overseas and take profits out of the country.
Shock! Australians are still using the net to gamble!
When will our ignorant polititians get a clue about the internet, let alone technology in general????!
This is the year 2005, not 1905.
