Call centre staff attending to the 1300 number listed in the ad indicated that Ericsson was providing the infrastructure behind the Hughes' Australian rollout.
However, Ericsson has released a statement denying that it had any involvement with the company.
-Please be advised that Ericsson Australia is not installing any systems or products, nor are there any related Internet services from Ericsson available, as advertised in the Courier Mail
The release went on to threaten legal action should there by any further attempts to relate Ericsson to the wireless Internet offer.
Ericsson isn't the only company to be flexing its legal muscle, with broadband aficionado site Whirlpool reporting that the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission was investigating the case as of yesterday morning.
Given that the only Hughes listed with the Australian Securities and Investment Commission is based in Victoria and not Queensland, where the company surfaced, and Hughes Corporation in the States has already distanced itself from the case, Ericsson may have difficulty tracking the perpetrators down.
