Hoffman, who was hired by the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet in March as a coordinator for strategic policy and implementation, was appointed in the past 10 days, according to a report by The Australian.

The NBN company, which as yet is only identifiable by its Australian Company Number, 136 533 741, registered an appointment (or cessation) of a company officeholder with the Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC) on 13 July; however, details have not yet been transferred to ASIC's publicly available registry.

Hoffman's appointment will see him join four public sector employees appointed as interim directors at the time the company was registered with ASIC. Hoffman joins James Cameron, first assistant secretary, regional strategy digital economy and research for the Department of Broadband Communications and the Digital Economy; David Martine, general manager financial systems division in the Department of Treasury; and David Yarra, chief audit executive within the Department of Finance and Deregulation.

The secretary for the company is Norman Holcroft, who is the corporate secretary of the Australian Government Solicitor.

The decision to appoint or dismiss new directors is limited to either the Minister for Communications, Stephen Conroy, or Minister for Finance, Lindsay Tanner.

Conroy last week said he would announce the company's board, the CEO and the lead advisor for its implementation study by the end of this month.

ZDNet.com.au is waiting for a response from Conroy's office.
