Heavyweights join Tas NBN Co board

Former Aurora Energy chief, Daniel Norton, and two more directors have been appointed to the remaining spots on the Tasmanian National Broadband Network Company (TNBNCo).

The latest appointments, which follow the those announced last week, have all held leadership roles at formidable large-scale infrastructure providers.

Norton is perhaps the highest profile of the new appointments, having served as chief of both Aurora Energy — TNBNCo's joint owner — and Tasmania's hydro-electric energy provider, Hydro Tasmania. Norton was also a secretary of the Tasmanian Department of Premier and Cabinet.

Also appointed today was Mark Kelleher, current secretary of Tasmania's Department of Economic Development, Tourism and the Arts and chief of the Tasmanian Development Board. Sean Woellner, the former chief of infrastructure project consultancy, Tenix Alliance, was also appointed.

The three new directors of the TNBN Co add significant weight to company's board and join TNBNCo's executive chairman, former Telstra Countrwide executive, Doug Campbell.

The new board held its first meeting today, according to a joint statement by Tasmanian Premier David Bartlett and Communications Minister Stephen Conroy.

Bartlett said TNBN Co could now "get on with the job of constructing a super fast fibre to the premise network."

Conroy noted that these latest appointments ensured TNBNCo had a "high quality board".

I assume Mark Kelleher is the same chap who headed up Roaring 40's ? - Another loss making organisation
Dan Norton - Didn't the Tas Gov bail out Hydro three years running ?
Sean - Didn't Downer put a fibre in the ground in Tasmania which hasn't been used for 5 years ?

    Good luck !
