Fake Stephen Conroy quits Telstra

Controversial online satirist Leslie Nassar, who caused a stir with his impersonation of Communications Minister Stephen Conroy, has resigned his position at Telstra.

Nassar revealed the move to ZDNet.com.au this afternoon, but wouldn't comment further on whether he had lined up a new position yet, or what it might be. His last day at Telstra will be 21 August.

Holding the title of senior emerging technology specialist (mobile) at Telstra, Nassar was one of the telco's experts in next-generation mobile platforms such as those offered by Apple's iPhone and Google's Android platforms.

He worked in the telco's chief technology officer under CTO Hugh Bradlow, who the satirist at one stage launched an abusive blog assault against, telling him to "go f*** yourself".

The Fake Stephen Conroy Twitter account gained a critical mass of followers on Twitter earlier this year, leading to public acknowledgement from the real communications minister and ongoing speculation about Nassar's identity.

Nassar himself contributed several satirical articles under the Fake Stephen Conroy pen name to sites such as ZDNet.com.au and Crikey.

After he finally outed himself publicly on Twitter, a series of events led to Nassar famously claiming Telstra had sacked him in March this year, a claim the telco immediately denied, noting it had, however, subjected him to disciplinary action for statements online about Telstra. Nassar has worked at Telstra since October 2007; he has previously held roles at the ABC, Cooeey and Legion Interactive.

Forgive me if I've parsed it wrong, but it looks like you were asking how it is that I am so awesome? "Leslie," you may have asked, "what advice would you give a barely-literate ape like myself, who desires -- nay, craves! -- the fawning adoration of headhunters worldwide?"

"Be awesome," I'll reply. "Be awesome, and havea HIGHLY SOUGHT-AFTER SKILLSET that makes you the envy of ISVs, carriers, and content houses worldwide."

Hi Leslie, yes you could be right, but then again you could be slightly megalomaniacal, or consumed by delusions of grandeur or obsessed by obsessions of grandiose action.

Then again you could be simply self confident in your own ability which is an excellent quality. Whichever, you certainly posses gifts which are not ordinary, dull and boring.

Leslie Nassar's posts were clever, fun and entertaining - but he SHOULD have been sacked the first time around.

For those sort of anonymous and cowardly actions, his disrespect towards the minister and his superiors in Telstra, he should have been given his marching orders from the get-go.

i've seen it mike, it's what $3.60, still only 30c more than it was when they started, ha.

a real killing for t2 investors at $7.40 like you, wasn't it?

    @ Too RS -- 15/08/09 (in reply to #320212990)

I too have seen the share price and concur with anonymous, completely.

Telstra shares have been an investors nightmare, even including that precious dividend. Keep making those excuses, for not being so clever!

So if you want an inexpensive stock that pays nice divs, sell Telstra and buy Duet Group. At around $1.60 per share they have over the past 4 years paid between 10c (current) and 14.12c dividend, twice yearly. Yes the Feb '09 div at 14.12c was more than Telstra, on a stock half the price! No I don't own them yet, but...

When you consider you could buy over 2 DUE shares for each current TLS share, you could almost double your div payments, especially as things are picking up and the current div of 10c may improve again?

So spewing isn't quite the word to best reflect my thoughts of Telstra's share price, basically not even keeping up with the broader market, lol. Check the highs/lows of the other biggies CBA, NAB, BHP, RIO, WOW, CSR and even the back from the brink OZL etc. They and most others have outperformed TLS.

So I think the word you were after is umm ........... guffawing... and to the point of tears.

In reply to @ Too Sydney Mike -- 15/08/09 (in reply to #320216054)

My God, anyone would think that Telstra shares are the only shares I buy. I hold a very mixed bag of shares in my portfolio, but it just so happens that Telstra happens to be included in the mix. I only refer to Telstra on this forum, because they are (supposedly) the topic. What the hell CBA, NAB, BHP, RIO, WOW, CSR and Duet Group has got to do with my Telstra shares and comments, is beyond me. That idiot Jason seems to think that a Telstra shareholder is in a one off investment, but the guys a recalcitrant dill, with a grudge against me, so who cares what he thinks. Let him have his fun and games. At the end of the day, he is the one with the problem, not me. (End of story)

In reply to Mike and Mike anonymous and Mike anonymous... RS -- 17/08/09 (in reply to #320216168)

Dear oh dear, look what's happened Sydney Mike.

I go away for most of the weekend, only to come back and find you (and you again as anonymous many, many times over) arguing with at least 2 others and now instead of Jason you are claiming Leslie/Fakey to be your new arch enemy, lol.

As you seem to have done with many others before, you have again brought it on yourself. Don't you ever learn?

I've been having a little running battle over at NWAT with greedy disgraceful shareholders, Messrs L******e, D**s and M******c.

You see, if they ever had any to start with, these disgraceful people have now lost all commonsense, totally consumed by selfish greed for their Telstra portfolios.

Any comment made, which doesn't fit their extremely limited portfolio boundaries are deemed Telstra bashing. These people are despicable, but thankfully just number 3 (sometimes 4).

They are unable to see any wrong in Telstra ever, no matter what. Basic comparison which are factual (like the Telstra share price being hopeless versus other blue chips) are argued over. Even now that Telstra have admitted being misleading and deceptive, they still refuse to admit anything.

Seems I can now add the name Newin to that list. And didn't you say also "end of story" - liar too I see.

    .............................@ Too Anonymous -- 15/08/09 (in reply to #320216054)

Wow, all that fabulous advice on Duet, and then you finish by saying:-

"........................No I don't own them yet, but..."

You must be laughing all the way to your imaginary bank ?

The infamous Sydney Mike. RS -- 15/08/09 (in reply to #320216182)

    Sydney Mike, welcome.

I have read a lot about you and believe a vast portion of these anonymous flaming Telstra masterpieces [sic] actually come from you and not Mr. Lawrence, wow. Nice to see you have finally put your name to this one too, as it is the end of story. But just why any rational person would comment both anonymously, and as themself, is anyone's guess? So after saying end of story, another comment appears only minutes later, anonymously, which of course, wasn't from you, lol?

My friend obviously that Telstra portfolio is not the only problem you have. I can now see why you are arguing with anyone who isn't a loser Telstra shareholder like you and why you are a target for ridicule, by so many.

As for not owning DUE yet, that's because I have been accumulating NAB. Admittedly, I would have been better with CBA than NAB (but NAB is M U C H better than TLS eh?) although NAB have been increasing nicely since I have been buying - although I could have waited and picked them up for a bit less, but you can't always buy in at the bottom and sell at the top. Also, with a new retail placement on offer from NAB at a greatly reduced price, I will be buying more NAB and considering DUE later. Is that ok with you?

Since you have trouble with numbers and it's all obviously, "as you even admit", beyond you, I simply used the other "blue chip" investment companies as a comparison to demonstrate that Telstra have performed terribly. Argue, but it is so. That's what it has to do with it.

Also Duet were used because the excuse all Telstra shareholders use is, oh they aren't going all that well at the moment, but the dividend is great. So this was another simple comparison to show, there are other cheaper and more lucrative alternatives.

But my previous comments were generalisations about Telstra and their share price, not you. Just how you think I was singling you out and how my comments reflect upon you is anyone's guess. Do you believe the whole world revolves around you and that every comment about Telstra and Telstra shares, anyone makes, is being made about you and your portfolio? If so, you are very deluded, trumped up little man!

Of course you have more than just Telstra shares. To put everything into one sector would be investment suicide. But again, these comments weren't about you and the fact that you have taken offence pretty well paints a clear picture of just how that portfolio, especially the Telstra portion, is actually performing.

Sydney Mike, I obviously don't know you and reading your strange self centred comments, I am better for not knowing you. It seems to me that you are a very insecure individual who keeps making vain excuses about his portfolio for what ever reasons.

We'll see if it's the end of story (not including the anonymous comment after, yawn).

Also, just what is the fascination with this Jason you forever speak of too?
