Coonan, you need a technical educationAnonymous -- 31/08/07

You need to go back to school Coonan, you have shown you don't know what you are doing or talking about, procrastinated for far too long and wasted millions on techincally flawed useless solutions in the process.

    Coonan's viewAnonymous -- 31/08/07

A cynic would suggest that Helen Coonan is merely doing her job as an active advocate for the largest Telstra shareholder. An idealist would argue that she should be striving to improve access for all Australian citizens.

    Coonan and B/bandEddie Laird -- 31/08/07

Where was your plan 8 yrs ago Senator.

    Fast Fibre Australia.Sydney Lawrence -- 01/09/07

Please Kevin Rudd and Senator Conroy have discussion with the only company with the financial and technological resources to immediately commence the FTTN build for Australia.

The legal obstacles that the Howard Government has put in place to stop Senator Conroy using the Future Fund can be negated as Telstra has the capacity to fund the FTTN build, with no cost to the Australian taxpayer.

I believe that if Labor and Telstra could announce this deal to the public it would pull the rug from under Senator Coonan and Co. and put the final nail in the Government coffin.

Please Sydney...stop with all the SPIN!.

Not only would it pull the rug from under the current plans, late as they are, it would also put more money in your pocket and all those who have shares, once Tel$tra regained it's monopoly, which the Tel$tra plan is aimed at doing.

You aren't going to get the thing you want most...a MONOPOLY over all the telecommunications, so you and your sleazy mates including Sol can make even more millions.

You must think we're all dumb!

My 12 year old son knows more about IT and the state of play with broadband than Coonan. He has grown up all his life with Alston and now Cooan at the helm. Maybe when he is an adult he will send you to your retirement village with you super fast 56k broadband. Your ignorance is shining through, and you can't even fool the children anymore let alone me whom you have personally met.

Rural areas will be welcoming the government's decision to put its money where its politicising is, funnelling $250m into a regional fibre upgrade to six rural centres. Remedying over a decade of near-neglect at the hands of telecoms privatisation, the investment could be the firmest step yet for Labor's NBN dream — but with inevitable political questions and a looming election, Rudd and Conroy need to deliver, and quickly, to preserve the NBN's credibility.
