MORK I also think Telstra should continue with their present fibre roll-out and complete the upgrade to cable that they have already commenced.
The unacceptable rubbish that Telstra opponents suggest should, for the sake of the Australian taxpayer, be consigned to the nearest rubbish bin.
Their faint hope of success would necessitate the confiscation of Telstra equipment, the hijacking of all Telstra customers plus untold billions of taxpayer money.
Keep your roll-out going Telstra and give the pretenders what they have been disingenuously asking for over the past years, honest and open customer serving competition.

Who cares if Telstra does not bid?
All it means is that Telstra will be a customer of the new consortium built FTTN - a consumer rather than an owner - so the boot will be on the other foot.
It will be interesting to see the response of the consortium to the supply cost arguments that Telstra will throw at them. The same arguments that have been thrown at Telstra for the past few years.
Of course - they will also construct their own FTTN or probably FTTH - because they have the capital to do so.
It is after all - a free market for those with the capital to invest.
