Cable cut hits BigPond customers

A fibre optic cable in the Dandenong area has been cut, interrupting BigPond Broadband access to a large section of Melbourne.

-We can confirm a cable has been cut, and we're investigating the cause," Telstra spokesperson James Tuckerman told ZDNet Australia. -We have a repair crew on the site. We do not have an estimated time of fix but we have a restoration plan in progress and staff will be working into the night."

Telstra's Service Status page states the outage started at 3.45pm, and lists the affected areas as Dandenong Nth, Rowville, Endeavour Hills, Cranbourne and Cranbourne Nth.

This problem follows on the heels of an earlier outage in Sydney, which saw some broadband users without access from 9.00pm Thursday till Friday afternoon.
