Cable bought for Tassie NBN roll-out

The Tasmanian arm of the National Broadband Network Company, NBN Tasmania, has selected the company that will provide the fibre-optic cable for the new backhaul network in the island state.

Corning Cable Systems was chosen to provide the cable requested in the very first tender to go out for the whole National Broadband Network project, which closed in August.

This fibre will go to the first stage of the roll-out, to be completed in the second quarter of 2010, which involves extension of the state's existing fibre backbone from Cambridge via Midway Point to Triabunna, from Port Latta to Smithton, and from George Tow via Scottsdale to St Helens.

Deliveries of the fibre are expected this month and next. The fibre will see 5000 homes in Smithton, Scottsdale and Midway Point communities linked to the network, according to the company.

The contract was, according to an addendum to the tender documents, only worth around $3 million, which industry sources had said would only deliver 400km to 500km of fibre, although Tasmanian Premier David Bartlett had said thousands of kilometres of cable would be rolled out for the entire build. Corning Cable Systems will supply 292km of fibre.

NBN Tasmania executive chairman Doug Campbell was pleased with the speed the contract had been settled. "Today's announcement again shows NBN Tasmania and Aurora Energy are able to mobilise resources quickly to ensure the roll-out of what will be a landmark development for Tasmania and Australia as a whole," he said in a statement.

Another Tasmanian tender, for termination systems to link pre-determined lengths of fibre cable, closes today.

Cheap cable = Crappy network RS (the original and best) -- 08/10/09

Well here is the first bit of money wasting, optus and others have used this cable and are forever having problems with its ability to last or even work, what else do we expect from Krudd and Conroy communications. Cheap crappy cable will only give a cheap and crappy network.

    Great nation building, idiots.

new low... Salami Chujillo -- 09/10/09 (in reply to #320373231)

Geess, i never expect the greedy TLS shareholders to go this low. I guess, i lost the debate and a whole lot of share monies.so they resort to low acts.

correction.... Salami Chujillo -- 09/10/09 (in reply to #320373938)

    i lost = they lost

They lost... and it's hurtin' RS (hater of greedy disgusting TLS shareholders) -- 09/10/09 (in reply to #320373946)

Yes Salami, you or I could post using their names too, wow. But it's just shows the desperation, as those shares keep falling, lol.

It's a pity with so many honest, hard working mum and dad TLS shareholders, that a few overcome by absolute greed are giving them all a bad name. If I were them I know what I'd be saying to these greedy few....

But RS (the obviously cheap imitation), you firstly steal my name now you steal my slogan - the original and best (I note you even got ithat wrong first time, lol).

Do you Telstra puppets have no shame at all?

I'll have to do a Telstra and land you in court, lol!

So please refer above for your new name and feel free to use it 24/7. No need to thank me, it's my pleasure entirely...

TLS Shareholder Aikon -- 09/10/09 (in reply to #320374024)

You have serious envy problem RS. Do you have no shame? What is so wrong with having TLS shares comrade?? Is it such a crime for people to try and mprove their lot by investing in shares, TLS or any other share?? Australia is not a communist country and I'm of the view that people should be encouraged to take the odd risk and invest in their future and it also lessens the future burden on tax payers.

Don't take it personally Aikon! RS -- 09/10/09 (in reply to #320374398)

Is it a crime? No it's not, far from it , so you miss my point entirely.

And had you read my comments you would know that they have been directed at 3, disgraceful greedy shareholders only. I even make sure from time to time that I spell it out, as I did here.

From above "comrade, lol" ... "It's a pity with so many honest, hard working mum and dad TLS shareholders, that a few overcome by absolute greed are giving them all a bad name"...

Tell me which part of that don't you understand and I'll simplify it for you!

These 3 men will "always praise Telstra" and "always bag every other company" and "childishly" ridicule anyone who does not do as they do. Coincidentally they are all TLS shareholders...

Thing is, I am a shareholder myself (not of TLS until they reach $3.00, then maybe). But when my shares go down or underperform, I do not infiltrate every blog and sickeningly praise my companies 24/7, cry about the share price, and blame everyone else.

"I bought them" and if I didn't read the prospectus or do my homework that's my bad luck and I will admit it! Why can't they?

So Aikon, should I now make it 4 greedy disgraceful shareholders or are you actually one of 3 hiding... again?

TLS Shareholder Vasso Massonic -- 09/10/09 (in reply to #320374398)

Aikon, don't waste your time with Rat SH!T. It's like arguing with a brick wall. I was born in Africa, so able to put up with his garbage due to the thickness of my skin...Oh, I'm one of the 3 now 4 members of the inteligencia who have to put up with this perennial ignoramus who persists with his oxymoron.... "3, disgraceful greedy shareholders"

    T1 price $3.30, T2 $7.40, T3 $3.60 Therefore 3 Telstra shares bought for $14.30

    Today 3 Telstra shares are worth (3 x $3.17) $9.51 a paper loss of $4.79 = 33.50%

Greedy shareholders? ...more like gluttons for punishment for the telecommunications National Interest.

He does have a problem, but that's HIS PROBLEM

Cheers mate, welcome to the club.

A little maturity and dignity please Vasso. RS -- 09/10/09 (in reply to #320374632)

    Vasso!

With all respect... at least show a little maturity, dignity and display minimal composure in your twilight years, please!

I know those massive TLS share losses have turned you into an indecent raving madman, but...

Once again to remind everyone - these blind, greed driven, Telstra puppets, who comment here incessantly with extreme childishness and with no rhyme, reason or truthfulness, are actually "3 retired men"! Yes..

Pitifully, for gents in their supposed dignified twilight years, these 3 are so overcome by TLS share greed, that they have lost all self control and rationality (if they had any to start with - well, they bought TLS, eh)!

The Vasso's, Sydney's and Mike's of this world are bitter because they truly thought Telstra shares would be easy money. Back then, not only did they invest as much as they could, but they would have done the hard sell, even more than the Howard Government, to friends and family, too.

Ironically, having spent the last 5 years arguing otherwise, at the time they probably told everyone "get in on this..Telstra has a "monopoly" on Australia's entire Telecommunications network... YOU CAN'T LOSE". Lol.

My greed references are made, not only due to their angst, of these unexpected and immense losses incurred from TLS purchase, BUT MORE THE ASSUMED WEALTH WHICH NEVER MATERIALISED (THE HARBOUR SIDE MANSION NEXT TO OUR NICOLE AND THE FERRARI) THEY ARE OH SO SORE ABOUT. Plus the embarrassment of being so very wrong and dragging everyone else down with them!

That's why they embraced NWAT. NWAT gave these burned shareholders many excuses to run with, and Vasso and Sydney haven't stopped running since.

Blaming the current and previous Government, ACCC, CCC, competitors and anyone else they and NWAT could invent to blame, just to cover their own ineptness!

This equates to the fact that Vasso, you sir are not only greedy, but you are the "disgraceful king of greed".

If only you had sold at $9.16 (now $3.16, lol) and not been overcome by that Harbourside mansion eh?

A little maturity and dignity please RS? Is that really you RS -- 09/10/09 (in reply to #320374802)

With all respect... at least show a little maturity, dignity and display minimal composure in your twilight years, please?

I know my overwhelming hatred of all things Telstra has turned me into a totally indecent raving madman, but...

Once again to remind everyone - my indecent ravings and character assasinations of these supposed, Telstra shareholders, will carry on here incessantly with extreme childishness and with no rhyme, reason or truthfulness.

I have to admit my hatred of all who have achieved far more than my own life which is spiraling further and further from reality.....

I can do nothing than to relive day after day the all consuming hatred of my own ineptness.

    The shame the shame.

The embarasment that is felt by falling further and further behind those who crave success have blinded me to all the endless possibilities that I have squandered in my pitiful life thus far.

As others succeed I can but do nothing more than to berate and be little those who have so much more than I.....

As for NWAT, I have as stated earlier nothing better to do than deride and insult the intelligence of those who would seek to do otherwise....

Please RS save me from myself so that I may succeed where I have so obviously failed in the past.

At new RS. Keep trying tiger! RS -- 09/10/09 (in reply to #320374826)

Keep trying tiger (RS junior) you'll get there one day.

You are a bit raw but show some promise.

Keep Trying RS -- 09/10/09 (in reply to #320375011)

As yet my life heralds a new beginning as I have created a junior to assist in my never ending campaign..........

    Oh the joys the joys.

Almost there RS -- 09/10/09 (in reply to #320375044)

Marginally better tiger, you'll get there!

OK Vasso Massonic -- 09/10/09 (in reply to #320374802)

You're right RS I am a disgusting old man and should be ashamed of myself.

I am so sorry and beg forgiveness.

NOT OK............................. Anonymous -- 13/10/09 (in reply to #320374852)

Hey Vasso, RS is a disgusting, boring, and totally worthless whacko, who's comments are not worth reading, let alone replying to. Why don't you simply ignore the creep.

Will the real RS stand up RS (the original and best) -- 09/10/09 (in reply to #320374024)

Pleas stop impersonating me, yes I hate Telstra and those that hold shares in the company. I do this as a sport as I have nothing better to do with my boring desperate lonely life.

Ah I hate them yet I continue to use their product and services. Am I a joyous person to have around?

    In answer yes I am.

Oh were is my mirror, I need to glow in my own glory again!

    OMG a Telstra/RS puppet, lol. RS -- 09/10/09 (in reply to #320374508)

Grow up fool! You now show your utter and complete desperation, lol...

TLS $3.16 at the moment down another 7c/2.17%.

Another 16c down, which shouldn't be too long now, and I'll consider joining you as a fellow whingy, whiny, poor old hard done by, greedy shareholder (sans your many $1000's in losses and your complete greed of course, lol).

    Have a lovely day, RS. Albeit a little poorer, a g a i n!

OMG another RS impersonator. Anonymous -- 14/10/09 (in reply to #320374585)

RS Syndrome (the symptoms of which are complete idiocy) is starting to spread. We are doomed, if it becomes an epidemic.

Not that crappy, so high-speedy it could be blown away Vasso Massonic -- 09/10/09

"TASMANIANS, guinea pigs for the national broadband network, could lose their high-speed internet for days on end because overhead cabling is vulnerable to the state's wild climate, a senate inquiry has heard..... continued Courtesy,
