I live only 30Km out of Canberra, but last year I switched to a CDMA phone because GSM was too patchy and there was no 3G signal anywhere near us either. The clincher was the local manager of Telstra Country claiming that CDMA was Telstra's CDMA network was its future! They must be very shortsighted!
You really have to wonder about Bruem's grasp of technology if he is calling CDMA an inferior technology. 3GSM and CDMA are based on much of the same intellectual property as will the next revisions of their respective standards.
Besides I thought the whole reason for the switchover was for supposed "cost savings" from operating a single technology.
Sounds to me like Breum is just voicing the Ericsson company line. Ericsson got out of CDMA because they were late to join and couldn't get any significant market share - and so now as a sales strategy they routinely dismiss the technology. Too bad Telstra has swallowed the Jimmy Jones juice Ericsson is pedalling and is shutting down a system that seems to be working fine.

I read with interest Telstra's talk of 80km range for 3G as opposed to CDMA. I can tell you it had better be a big improvement on the 3 Networks mobile service. I was with there 3G service for 18 months and was plagued by dropouts, poor service, poor reception and blackspots. The constant excuse was that I lived in an area where the 3G network 'crossed'. After moving twice I did not beleive this. Hope this is a DIFFERENT setup to the 3 network!!
