ConnectSEQ - Broadband for South East Qld Bill Caelli -- 17/05/07

    I can't wait!!

As a Telstra RIM/Pair Gain / Frank Blount victim I have NO broadband at all for my home or business and I am just near Nerang near the Gold Coast. (dial up on pair gain/RIM is ridiculous so I can forget any Web Services based systems such as Google Maps, YouTube, Second Life, etc) AND remember - new Federal Government e-Government services are being planned around such systems, i.e. Web Services, AJAX, etc.)

Yes - this is a political (Coonan) and national policy problem - we knew a long time ago that the base transport service ( the "roads" of the telecommunication world) had to be separated from the service providers (the "cars and trucks" of the telecomms world) in a country of our size and population BUT Liberal Party / Government policy just did not want to go in that direction.

The question now is how will ConnectSEQ work with a possible Labor plan? or, if Mr Howard returns, is the capital requirement for a major upgrade in SEQ available? That $100 million seems to be "petty cash" in the real broadband arena (i.e. better than 10Mbit/sec to the home/office) that I enjoy in countries like - wait for it - India, etc.

Yes - Broadband IS an election issue.
