BigPond said it was combining its AU$0 standard installation deal with two months' free access and unlimited downloads with a range of bundled product trials. The new offer is expected to be available for the next month.
The new deal, only available on a 24-month contract, gives users up to 10GB of downloads before their speed may be slowed down to 64kpbs for the remainder of that calendar month.
Under this offer, customers taking up BigPond Broadband Cable will receive an additional one month's free access.
Justin Milne, BigPond managing director, claimed in a statement the offering was designed to lure customers away from dial-up and into broadband.
"AU$29.95 'broadband at dial up prices' ignited the market in 2004, and saw a 234 percent increase over the previous year in average weekly BigPond broadband applications. I am confident that this new BigPond offer will see even more Australians make the switch from dial-up to broadband," he said.
Milne said BigPond would also be adding a month of DVD rentals and some music downloads to customers who will be upgrading their connection.
"By combining the two and then including a month of DVD rentals and some music downloads I think we're giving customers a huge incentive to upgrade," Milne said.
The offer comes in time for BigPond's new broadband content including the new twice-weekly Web cast program NRL Deluxe; new features on the V8 Supercar site, coverage on BigPond Racing and the soon-to-be-released BigPond movie downloads.
"I expect 2005 to be an exceptionally competitive year in the broadband market, and with 300 other ISPs offering broadband, we know we have to present customers with the best deals," Milne said.
Telstra announced that they will also be offering half price access to new dial up customers for the first six months on any 12-month dial up plan.
Eligible customers can choose from Internet Light with their first six months at AU$2.95 per month, through to AU$12.45 per month for the first 6 months on BigPond's "Ultimate" dial up plan.
