A survey this week of ZDNet Australia readers found that of more than 500 responses received, 50 percent favoured the Web as their primary source of information, while 36 percent turned to the television for the latest breaking news on -Operation Enduring Freedom".
More traditional media sources such as newspapers and the radio scored just six and 8 percent of the vote respectively.
The result appears to be in line with Web traffic trends that emerged shortly after terrorist-controlled aircraft slammed into New York's World Trade Center, as well the Pentagon and a rural area in Pennsylvania.
Soon after the attack, Internet traffic in Australia increased by 70 percent as people feverishly tried to gain access to news sites such as CNN. Local online news services were also choked by increased traffic following the September 11 attacks, as Australians turned to sources such as the ABC , and portals Yahoo and AltaVista for the latest news.
