Growth like no other SWalker -- 29/04/08

About two-weeks ago, global GSM subscriber numbers passed 3 billion and the number is growing by more than 1 million per-day. For developing nations, many of whom don't have legacy fixed-line infrastructure, mobile networks will be the first and and probably only form of communication that consumers receive. Its not only top-line growth but also innovation and the use of a massive variety of services in these countries that is outstripping developed countries. The impact on our lives of mobiles is well understood, however in the developing world, mobiles have a profound impact on people's lives and can drive significant social and economic benefits. Access to telecommunications forms an element of the UN Millenium Development Goals.
