A New Zealand man has chosen not to challenge an extradition order that will see him brought to Australia to face sex offence charges involving a 14 year-old girl he is alleged to have approached on the Internet.

A spokesperson for Wellington's National Courts Office Department said the man consented to the extradition and waived his right to a 15 days stay to mount an appeal. The man is expected to be escorted to Australia by Perth police tomorrow.

The extradition warrant was issued by Perth district court earlier this week after the girl took her complaints against the 39 year-old Wellington man to police.

The man, reported by New Zealand media to be a former Press Secretary of one of the country's prominent political figures, is alleged to have approached the Perth teenager in an Internet chatroom.

Police claim he continued to communicate with the girl via e-mail then travelled to Perth to commit the offences between January and June 2000.

News of the successful extradition comes amidst an online sex scandal in New Zealand legal circles. The Crown Law Office is investigating allegations that members of its judiciary have been using work computers to access pornography Web sites.

Perth Police expect the man to face Perth District Court on Saturday.
